Hosea 6:6

For I desire faithful love and not sacrifice,

the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings.

Jesus' first public sermon talks about the importance of mercy and how those who show mercy will receive it in return. These words echo the call of Prophet Micah, who preached about loving mercy intentionally. As followers of Jesus, it's our responsibility to love mercy and embody it in our daily lives. The concept of mercy includes acts of generosity, hospitality, benevolence, compassion, charity, love, self-sacrifice, and empathy. To love mercy, we need to care for and support marginalized communities, love our neighbors as we love ourselves, create opportunities for everyone to experience God's grace and forgiveness, and provide pastoral care during moments of suffering and crisis. Our love for mercy will also extend to providing rent and utility assistance to those in need, hosting outreach events centered around hospitality, and maintaining our property to create a safe and welcoming environment for everyone.
